Amboise was the first of the chateaux we visited. There were many surprises at this castle. Leonardo da Vinci visited here often and is buried in Saint-Hubert Chapel, a gothic chapel which is on the castle grounds. Amboise was first owned by Louis d'Amboise, and has seen 2000 years of history in the Loire Valley; Louis XI lived here, Charles VIII lived and died here, Francois I and Catherine de' Medici visited here often. This chateau is the setting of the Amboise Conspiracy of 1560, a Huguenot plot against Francois II which ended with 1,200 conspritors hanging from iron hooks suspended on the facade of the chateau.

Amboise is such a interesting place, I did not know that Leonardo da Vinci spent some part of his life there and is buried there.

How interesting--I didn't realize that the storyline in the movie "Ever After" followed real life so closely! :)
