From Annecy you can catch a train and within one hour and 30 minutes you can be in Chamonix. It's a very touisty little town, but in the summer it is quite warm and is very colorful. There are great little markets where you can shop for food for a picnic in the park. There are also several resturants. Chamonix is where you catch the lift to Mont Blanc. You will need to make reservations 24 hours in advance as this is a very popular attraction. You should make the reservations from Annecy, and the number is 04 50 53 4000. I'm sorry to say I couldn't go to the top of Mont Blanc because I wasn't aware I needed a reservation - however, my son and his bride went to the top, on their honeymoon....
- Pros:Great Place to Visit on Your Way to Mont Blanc
- Cons:Too Many Tourists in the Summer
- In a nutshell:A Pretty Town in the French Alps

nice start, great intro photo - I'll be back !
wonderful intro pic Nancy, looking forward to the text on this great Mountain
Hi, nice start. I agree with moutainguide. Also, no need for 24 hour reservations? You wouldn't get tickets in Annecy - they are given at the Aiguille lift station starting in the early AM. Only high season (July/Aug) is crowded.
Good introduction, too bad about the reservations.
I was at the top of Aiguille du Midi (by lift from Chamonix) in May... a few years ago and it was great. No climbing Mont Blanc for amatours that time (still winter there)!
Just a couple of corrections - the lift does not go to Mont Blanc (it's Mont, not Mount). It goes to the Aiguille du Midi. Mont Blanc must be climbed and is almost 2000 meters above this point.
I know, I know. It's not done yet. Just couldn't resist the mountains. They remind me of quiet times.
