This guy sits up on Notre Dame gazing down on one of the world's most famous cities with it's wide boulevards and renown monuments. Is he watching the lovers on the banks of the Seine? Or, is he sticking his tongue out at the throng of crazed tourists rushing from one site to another and thinking you'll never know Paris unless you've seen what I've seen:
The ravaging "black death", Joan of Arc riding into fight the English; the Louies, the influence of the Renaissance , the arrival of da Vinci and Mona; Catherine de Medici & her boys, the coming and going of the Huguenots, the rise of the destitute against the decadent aristocracy; the execution of King Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette; Napoleon crowning himself and Josephine; the Impressionist setting up their easels on the Seine; Haussmann’s new Paris design, buildings rising and falling on the landscape; more wars, Paris fashion, terrorism, a controversial pyramid and McDonalds.
Ahh, but mister gargoyle, look what we do get to see when we visit Paris! |
