Luggage And Bags: Bring as few luggage bags as you possibly can. I think traveling light is a good idea, especially if Boston is not going to be your only stop.
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: If you are plannig to come to Boston during the winter, bring lots of wool sweaters, long pants, and cotton shirts. Not to mention a wool jacket (or a down coat) and winter boots.
If you are planning to come during the summer, then bring lots of shorts and tee-shirts.
Toiletries & Medical Supplies: Most hotels in the city are equipped with Toiletries and Medical supplies, so I recommend you only travel with the supplies you need while traveling (a.k.a are on the plane, train, boat, whatever.) The local pharmacies may have trouble filling out of town prescriptions, so I recommend bringing bottles that have already been filled, not the other way around.
Photo Equipment: Be sure to bring your camera, anyone will do.
Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: If you are planning to visit the beach, be sure to bring the appropriate clothing, sunblock, and perhaps a picnic.
Miscellaneous: Don't forget your American Express! ):
