BUDAPEST or as I call it 'The Big Peach".

Budapest another October day

(NOTE)
VTML is really naff and doesn`t support all Hungarian characters
of the alphabet,
so
a lot of my pages which I wrote using Hungarian letters,
there will appear a ? instead..
..will update when I get time...

July 2007 Was one of the hotest months on record with +42

APRIL 2006 BUDAPEST SUFFERED THE WORST FLOODING
OF THE DANUBE FOR MANY YEARS!
WATER LEVELS BROKE RECORDS BUT NO REAL DAMAGE
COMPARED TO THE NEIGHBOURING COUNTRIES!

"Places to meet a Budapest Friend: One should not set up an
appointment with a Budapest person in the open air, especially not in
the winter. They tend not to be on time, not exact time, at any rate.
So try to agree an appointment indoors, preferably in a place which
does not cost you anything.

Morning - The big oak table in the main hall of the Museum of Ethnography,
the former Supreme Court. (V. Kossuth Lajos ter 12. Closed on Monday.)

Afternoon - The ground floor covered courtyard of Budapest Central Library,
head office, inb the former stables, now café. (VIII. Szabo Ervin ter.
Closed on Sunday, unfortunately.)

Evening - Cafe Muvesz, the inner room. Traditional splendour,
elderly clientele - but not at that hour. (VI. Andrassy ut 29.)

After most places have closed - Nagymami Palacsintazoja.
('Grandma's Pancake Bar')
A round the clock Hungarian style pancake bar, with every
conceivable
kind of filling, sweet and sour, with meat or without. (I. Batthyany ter 2.)

At 5 a.m. - Copy General where you are likely to bump into
architecture students desperately trying to meet their last
deadline, and some eccentric composers with fresh music
to be given to the string quartet
the coming morning."

I will update this page soon.
Promise.

Plenty of text to come later when I have time during 2006..
.Hungary basically consists of Budapest, the capital with
over 2,100,000 people and the rest of the country
with 8 and a half million.

(SINCE WRITING THESE POINTS>>>Now 2005
The population was 2.1 million back in 1989 but today
has shrunk to 1.7 million.People have gotten richer and
moved out to the outlying villages and villages around Budapest.)
It was just only over a hundred years ago that Budapest became
a large industrial city and today is the political, economic and
cultural centre of the country. The city became Budapest in 1873
with the union of Pest, Obuda and Buda, the population was
300,000. By the turn of the century this figure more than doubled to 733,000.people.

To get to Szentendre take the local suburban train (HEV) from
Batthany Ter to Szentendre, it takes about 45 mins.
Last trains leave around midnight back.

Bazilika (St. Stephen's Church) Central Budapest

The Bazilika (St. Stephen's Church)

Basilica it is not in the technical sense of the word,
Hungarians like to call St. Stephen's "The Basilica" in honour
of its sheer size: I know it's the largest church in Hungary.
The Basilica took nearly 50 years to build (the collapse of the
dome in 1868 caused a significant delay); three leading architects,
two of whom (Jozsef Hild and Miklos Ybl) died before work was finished,
presided over its construction. It was finally completed in 1906,
but during its long construction Pest had undergone radical growth;
strangely, while the front of the church dominates sleepy Szent Istvan ter,
the rear faces out onto the far busier Inner Ring boulevard.
The bust above the main entrance is of King Stephen,
Hungary's 1'st Christian king. Inside the church, in the Chapel of the Holy
Right (Szent Jobb Kapolna), you can see Hungarian Catholicism's most
cherished--and bizarre--holy relic: Stephen's preserved right hand.
The church was considered so sturdy that it was used to store important
documents and artworks during World War II bombing. If a church ever
needed a good spring cleaning, this is it. Organ concerts are held here
at 7pm on Monday evenings from July through October;
tickets cost 800 Ft ($2.90). Daily mass is held at 8am, 5:30 and 6pm;
Sunday mass at 8, 9, and 10am, noon, 6 and 7:30pm.

Hours Church, daily 7am-7pm, except during services;
treasury, daily 9am-5pm (10am-4pm in winter); Szent Jobb Chapel,
Mon-Sat 9am-5pm (10am-4pm in winter) and Sun 1-5pm; tower,
Apr-Oct 10am-6pm, (closed Nov-Mar)

Transportation Metro: Arany Janos utca (Blue line)

I would like to have a raisins tree in my garden. Maybe I'll plant raisins and see if they'll produce a tree.
