"My first steps in Baires" Buenos Aires by alza

I finally made it to the farthest country on my long journey, Argentina, and just arrived in Buenos Aires where I hope to stay a while. I want to learn the tango. I've been apprehensive about taking lessons during the past weeks (What if I drive the professor crazy?) but it's all cool now. What a magic city!
My confidence level increased the minute I settled into a nice hostel in San Telmo. A tango teacher comes on Wednesday nights to give a class and advise the hopeful on how to go about learning this emotional twister.
For now, I'm walking across town to a renowned library specialising in guidebooks. I need to prepare for a camping trip in Patagonia before long. But not before I find a place to call my own in Buenos Aires for the next couple of months. I need to unload and stay put. And I must get away from hostels, where I can't improve my Spanish at all since everyone speaks English!
now where's the beef?
P.S. No pics for a while, Once there were two cameras, And then there were none.

Very well written page about Buenos Aires. What a journey you made! Did living in Argentina change you?
its interesting to hear your experiences, i grew up in latin america so it was a quite different situation for me
Ahhh, I understand that it was different for you, having grown up in Latin America. I didn't expect to bond so deeply to Mexico, its people & history. In fact, I remember now that I I bonded with Brazilians visiting Buenos Aires! Just hearing them talk among themselves in BA, I could understand them, though I don't speak Portuguese... sort of made me feel at home. I can't explain why that was... but there was a genuine feeling of recognition there. :)
Encore un endroit où je n'irai pas, hélas. Quand j'avais les dents je n'avais pas les noix; maintenant que j'ai les noix, je n'ai plus les dents.
Fascinating and well written page on BA. I do agree Recoleta is well worth the time and not to be missed.
thanks for writing in my tango page! I was trying to give an advice for somebody who is going to be there only for one day. I love your pic in Retiro in your profile :)
interesting tips, why dont you write more here?
interesring stuff. regards.sb
BA may be my destination for next year since the dollar is so low in Europe where I am living now. Do you think it is a safe place for a single woman in her 60's? I would take Spanish while there.
I love yr Tortoni tip. BA is special.Greetz and happy NY
good picture in the portada. hiw was the tango lessons?
Hola Lou! Your beautiful descriptions of the insider brought me to this charming city that I have a great wish to visit! Sipping some wine while watching the tango... ah! Last year we had months of Argentine culture with music, films, tango... Un abrazo!
