Boston - The Hub

by rids - last update: Jul 25, 2004

View from Harbor Cruise
December is a great time to visit Boston, because of the decorations everywhere, and the great shopping. In one week I saw every place on this page, and wished I could have spent much more time in this city.
Be sure to look at my travelogues, especially Holiday Decorations and City Streets (which has photos from all around town).
All of the photographs are mine, except for a couple of restaurants and the Sargent Gallery in my Library travelogue.
For anyone who is really, really interested in history, this website is perfect: http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Ithaca/2594/boston_illus/b_i_1.html.
It has the story of Boston since it's founding, with old maps and drawings.

Great story, but the Constitution was built under The Naval Act of 1794, and her maiden voyage did not start until 22 July 1798 - almost 19 yrs after the 23 August 1779 sailing date from Boston.

Would like to report that this beautiful hotel has recently completed a $30 million renovation. The hotel looks amazing, the location is unbeatable, and the service is excellent.

In the "other contact" you were cut off on the really cool website. What was it?

Actually, the couple of blocks along Wash. Street is no longer referred to as the "combat zone" but the warning (that it's dark and should probably be avoided) still stands.
