FORT LAUDERDALE

<b>My first trip to Fort Lauderdale came right in the nick of time. We had received a lot of snowfall in December and my trip to Cancun at the end of November was fast becoming a fading memory. I wanted to get away for some peace after working like crazy over the holiday season. The TV news business never ends and I worked on every holiday; Christmas, Boxing Day, and New Year's Day. So I treated myself to a week away.

I was really happy with my destination. Fort Lauderdale is a beautiful city with a gorgeous beachfront. The Intracoastal Waterways really make it a special place. I should have taken a cruise along them but never did get around to it. I spent time with a local VT'er and we had great fun ;)

There’s a lot to see and do and if you rent a car even better. You can out to the surrounding towns and also out to see the Everglades.
Another thing you can do, and I’d like to some time, is take a day cruise to the Bahamas from Fort Lauderdale. It only costs about $150 for a full day. You leave early in the morning on a cruise ship, get to the Bahamas, spend about 4 hours doing what you want, and then cruise back arriving around 10:30pm. All meals on board ship are provided as well. There are also overnight trips you can do like this as well. I thought that this was a great idea. If you can make the time you should really do it!
I've used a postcard here so you can see how beautiful it is! So beautiful in fact that I've now been 3 times!

See my Key West page for a quick trip I took during another visit to Fort Lauderdale.

I think your beef comes primarily from waiters. You folks can't tip worth $hit. It's 15-20% here in the US ;-) I hated when canadians came into my section. You work your arse off for a party of 10 and then you get 10 bucks on a 100 dollar bill.

Great page! Being not that much beach fun, I like most your off the beaten path tips, especially on Sawgrass Recreation Park. Happy New Year and a lot of happy travels :-)))
