Islay Travel Guide: 59 reviews and 150 photos
'Queen of the Hebrides', Islay is famed for the peaty taste of its world famous whiskies: Lagavullin, Laphroaig, Ardbeg, Caol Isla, Bowmore and Bunnahabhain.
This beautiful, peaceful island is a two hour ferry ride from the mainland.
I was especially charmed by the cows lounging on the beach and taking dips in the water. Wish I'd been able to take a pic of it, but we were in the bus at the time
- Pros:Lots of whisky distilleries
- Cons:Lots of whisky distilleries
- In a nutshell:Whisky nights under moonlight skies

The place looks really peaceful... Laura, you have explored a lot I must say!
Lovely beach. Unfortunately it's not a ruined chapel but a beach changing hut belonging to the estate that owned the beach and shoreline.
A free pint and free music to boot. Sounds like a nice Hebridean sojourn!
I enjoyed revisiting Islay through your page. A Christmas gift of a bottle of Lagavulin (a favourite) brought back memories of the place!
Must try Islay at some time. Nice page.
Don't forget that in Scotland, it is "whisky" and not "whiskey" (that's from everywhere else!). I'm going to Islay soon for some farm animal vet work - can't wait! Maybe I'll see those cows you speak of.
wow... Capercaillie, my favourite band... not taking "hens" to the concerts anymore because they all develop a crush on Charlie MacKerron :-(
ahhh, it's been too long since I was on Islay! Shame the ferry is so expensive, but that cheap B&B might come in handy!
a lovely page and great pics ! Unfortunately I have never been to that great island !
a page with a smell of whisky...i like your lost chapel!
