I visited Whitby with VT friends Steven and Susan Tilly. Having seen numerous episodes of Heartbeat in which the constables are wandering through this town I knew I had to have a look. This town is also where Bram Stoker is supposed to have been inspired to write his novel Dracula, the 199 steps and St Mary's Church being mentioned in the novel. Whitby is also famous for its adopted citizen Captain James Cook who served his apprenticeship here. It's a lovely seaside town and well worth a visit. The picture is of the whale bones which have been formed into an arch at the top of the west cliff. I didn't sketch this pic, it's actually a computerized sketch from a photo I took, thought it looked pretty cool ;-) |
