In an agreement with Benque Viejo, town fathers donated a strip of town land for a boat landing, Mopan Resort being across river from the town. Jay agreed to offer local town people jobs first. Jay insists they speak English even though most of the town is Spanish speaking. Most of the staff are locals, some paddling across the river in boats, the rest Jay picks up. Jay spent lots of time teaching them building and woodworking skills. The local welder, who never built a barge, dedicated 3 months during rainy season with Jay building one from specs Jay drew on a yellow legal pad.
