Sharrie's Nagasaki Foreign Influences

by Sharrie - last update: Mar 21, 2004

NAGASAKI, a city associated with the 2nd World War. Bombing of the city has left its marks in history. The undeniable terror & damage that had permeated the city during WWII have left lasting impressions on its victims & families. BUT, this event has also miraculously powered Japan into one of the richest country in the world with helps from the U.S. in its resurgence & reconstruction.

Pictured here is the 9-m (30-ft) tall monumental sculpture by Kitamura Seibo laid at the Peace Park which is the site of the atom bomb's epicenter where the U.S. detonated its 2nd atom bomb at 11:02 on Aug. 9, 1945. Intended target was the nearby shipyards. Official figures: Death - 73884, Injured - 74904, Unscatched - 71585. The massive naked figure points a warning to the sky & stretches his left hand in apparent reconciliation.

Having said this, there's another more inspirational & in my opinion more entertaining aspect to this eclectic city. That is the Puccini's Madame Butterfly. OPERA! Oh, what an intense, uplifting & inspiring encounter. I love Puccini's Madame Butterfly & La Boheme. Listening to opera aria is like tapping into one's soul & passion. Intertwined with the soprano's emotional expression & you reach a plateau of climax where your heart constricts & your tears flow. It's simply an awesome feeling! I don't have enough words for this. So, please go & get yourself a CD & just feeeeeeel & immerse yourself in this wonderful world of love, ok? :-)))
