Sharrie's Sendai Promenade

by Sharrie - last update: Jan 14, 2003

SENDAI is a city - no one who has ever been here can say otherwise. As soon as you stepped out of its gigantic JR Station, you'd be facing with varied choices... where to go, what to do, who to see & what to see! Choices, choices & even more choices as one walked further away from the station. It's kind of like leaving home for the 1st time; lots of excitement yet some degree of fear - fear of being lost & appearing foolish!

Now, one learns to adjust (not necessary with ease) one's expectation & enjoyment of a foreign country sooner or later. If you have been to Tokyo, especially Shinjuku & Ikebukuro, Sendai is somewhat like a replica in terms of size but with its own charm as well.

Sendai is special in that I've some unexpected but pleasant surprise. For the first time, I met 2 Chinese students from Mongolia & they were very nice. It's strange but to meet someone in a faraway country who speaks the same language is a heart-warming experience. In addition, I met a salesperson in Laox who spoke perfect English as he had stayed in Boston for 2 years. Hence, very nice encounters during my 1st visit to this city. I must say my first impression of this city is wonderful!
