CANADIAN ROCKIES is one of the most beautiful sights anyone would have the fortune to see. Devour is the right word. My first visit was in 1995 May.
Remember this, if you are visiting for the lakes, & there are many - most beautiful lakes in the world; make sure you visit after May. Most of the time, the snow hasn't melted before June & the sceneries you'll get to see are what you see on this page. I've since been back again in September & it's a very different experience altogether. But, I've always been lucky, I get to visit twice. So, do check the weather before heading for this part of the world. However, all things having said, my first trip to the Rockies is still an experience I'll never forget. It's that powerful & wonderful!
Wild, rugged, spectacular & unbelievable! The Canadian Rockies follow the great Continental Divide, along the Alberta/British Columbia border & are classified into a few major national parks, namely:
1. Banff National Park - Canada's 1st national park (1885)
2. Jasper National Park (1907)
3. Yoho National Park (1886)
4. Waterton Lakes National Park (1895)
5. Kootenay National Park (1920)
6. Glacier National Park (1886)
Since 1984, the United Nations has considered the Banff, Jasper, Yoho & Kootenay National Parks a huge World Heritage Site (20160 sq km / 7782 sq miles). In 1990, Mount Robson, Mount Assiniboine & Hamber Provincial Parks were also included.
