HEIDELBERG, of Student Prince fame, according to Mario Lanza's song is a town for romance & music. Well, most of us won't know who Mario Lanza is, although I do because of my parents' influence. My dad simply loves him! When I was a kid, it's not uncommon to visit our home & be entertained by his marvellous songs. It's one of those things in life, we always choose to think we are very different from our parents, but one fine day, you suddenly realised their impact on you, including your likings in food, music, friends & outlook in life, etc... It's simply an unending story. But, generally, my love for music are influenced by my parents. Simply couldn't live a day without music! Opera, Classical, New Age, Pop ... I'm addicted! I can live days without opening my mouth to speak but no music for a day, that's a real torture.
So, naturally, while I was visiting Munich & enroute to Frankfurt, I've to see this medieval city renowned for music & romance in the Summertime. Well, I didn't hear any music except those from my MDs & romance? Who knows what happened to them? ;-) Well, I was there only for an afternoon & I've always been real slow in this sense... But, I thoroughly enjoyed my afternoon!
Heidelberg is essentially a university town & has been since 1386. Like Oregon in the States & Oxford in the UK, students make up much of its population. The oldest university in Germany is found here! Heidelberg is 75 miles NW of Stuttgart & 55 miles South of Frankfurt.
