It's lonely out here! - Falkland Islands

FALKLAND ISLANDS... Sometimes, it surprises me how one gets to know about another's existence.
In this case, a war.

Human rationale at times can be mind-boggling.
How would remote islands as such end up being part of the sovereignity of the United Kingdom?
& a war for that matter?!

Well, I'm a firm believer that history best remains history.
So, lets not discuss what had happened more than 2 decades ago!

Falkland Islands ... we were there simply because it's part of the itinerary of Explorer II where its main destination is Antarctica.
We're here only for a day.
It was an interesting stopover nonetheless.
A great place to get those souvenirs, btw.
Expensive, but lots of choices.
If you love penguins, this is the place for you!

Guess you got closer or did you switch to your zoom for the penguin shots? ;) Good to hear Ushuaia became more reasonable. I skipped it in 1999 due to prices.

Good info and pics, sorry you didn't enjoy Gypsy Cove, the wildlife opportunities there can be a bit hit or miss.
