Trinity Cathedral - Moscow

Trinity Cathedral

Trinity Cathedral

TRINITY CATHEDRAL was built in 1422 over the grave of St. Sergius.
A splendid church which contains a fabulous iconostasis by Audery Rublev.

Trinity Monastery of St Sergius - Moscow
Trinity Monastery of St Sergius

Originally the monastery was just a small wooden church consecrated to the Holy Trinity in the forest. Sergius' (of Radonezh) piety attracted lots of pilgrims to this site & the community soon formed the Trinity Monastery.

Today, the huge complex is enclosed by walls around 1.6 km (1 m) long & inside it is many spectacular churches.
Even if you are not one who likes churches, this place is an architectural wonder worth a trip!

Beyond Moscow Monuments & Landmarks Review

Try to have extra time to explore beyond Moscow.
I was supposed to meet VTer Neilmcg this day but due to some problems with his work, we had to cancel our VT meet.
But, it was somewhat a blessing in disguise (at least for me it is ;-)).
This day, I visited the TRINITY MONASTERY OF ST. SERGIUS (TROITSE-SERGIEVA LAVRA) & boy, it was one of the most memorable place in my Russia trip!

This is where Moscow is most Russian, imho.
The very soul of it all.
Russian, Russian, Russian!

A splendid compound! Just look at the pix, don't you think it's one of the most beautiful place?
This is amounting to Fatima (Portugal) & Santiago de Compostela (Spain) for the Russian. A place of pilgrimage.
This is where I see lots of locals. Very interesting :-)

Founder: Sergius of Radonezh.
Location: Town of Sergiev-Possad.
Year built: Around 1345.

Peter the Great once stayed here during the Streltsy Rebellion in 1680s.

It once served as headquarters of the Russian Orthodox Church.

If you enjoy authentic architectural styles, this is the place for you.

For more indepth reading, check out my page (currently not built) on Sergiev-Possad (next year, sorry guys, no time for building pages).
