Since Indonesian Independence Day on August 17, 1945 Jakarta's population has skyrocketed from a mere 900,000 to the present 9 million or 17 million including the surrounding districts that form a greater Jakarta. Jakarta is the most congested & expensive city in Indonesia. It is where residents from the other islands & cities come to seek fame & fortune or just to eke out a living. Jakarta is where latest styles & thoughts are formed & important political decisions made. Here is also where most foreigners will come just to do business for a few days.
