  • My friend Geraldine and I happened to visit Yogya during the dry season and were lucky enough to attend the performances (only 4 successive nights; twice each month from May to Oct. yearly) of the Ramayana Ballet held at the outdoor theatre in Prambanan and it certainly is the most spectacular dance-drama I've ever seen. With the Shiva Temple as a backdrop, the 3-hr ballet performance from 7-10pm comprised of more than 100 dancers and gamelan musicians taking part in a spectacle depicting the story of Rama, a gentle husband, a kindly king and his wife Sita.

I'm planning my next trip to Indonesia. I wish for my first crossing south of the equator to be at either Pontianak or Bonjol. Right now I'm leaning toward Pontianak because it's easier but I believe the area surrounding Bonjol is more beautiful.
