FLORENCE is a city of cultural treasures located on the banks of the Arno. Everywhere you walk to is either a cathedral, a church, a museum or a palace. Here, you'll find the Romanesque Baptistry, the oldest building in the city famous for its bronze doors, the Duomo Cathedral & the Medici Palace, residence of the Medicis from 1460-1540. The Galleria dell'Accademia is where the world renown masterpiece of Michelangelo, David, is displayed. To utterly enjoy Florence, one needs to read up way before the trip & has passion for the arts.
Florence is also one of the most beautiful city (2nd to Venice) in Italy. For architectural buff like me, this is a city worth revisiting over & over again... |

left_t Mon May 31, 2004 19:23 UTC The reason for the low light is to protect the artifacts as light damages the historical paintings | maritagnes Wed Jun 11, 2003 15:10 UTC Beautiful views and details from Firenze! I'll be finally be there in just a few days!! | elckerlyc Thu Apr 3, 2003 10:13 UTC 1. gothic architecture was all about creating large buildings with lot of light inside. it was a huge achiefment to make them as light as they are. remember these buildings were constructed ages ago! 2. God does not live in a building, silly! | iandsmith Mon Feb 24, 2003 15:37 UTC Nice page - agree totally about the dark churches. |
