ASWAN is about 130 miles south of Luxor & some of the places of interest around this region are the Tomb of the Aga Khan, Elephantine Island (reached by the fellucas, where the Nubian villages are), Kitchener's Island (where the botanical garden is), Monastery of St Simeon (one of the largest Coptic monasteries in Egypt) & the Unfinished Obelisk. Philae & Abu Simbel are situated in the Aswan region as well. |
Traveling in modern Egypt entails lots of time along the Nile River which essentially is the livelihood of the entire Egyptian civilisation. Fellucas & boats ply along this river all day long & traveling on one is an experience of a lifetime for most travelers (except those who suffer from seasicknesses!). |
