Bangkok Transportation

Transportation: Thai Airways.

Getting TO/AROUND: I flew by Thai Airways. Excellent service & food. Highly recommended. Member of Star Alliance, in other words, accumulate all those miles!!!

To get to the city center or your hotel from the airport, I highly recommend the Thai Airways Limousine Service (by Mercedes Benz). It's 500 baht (US$11.50) per car per trip & the ride could take more than 1/2 hours depending on where you are heading as well as traffic conditions.

    BTS Skytrain: BTS Sky Trains.

    Category: Train
Getting TO/AROUND: BTS Sky Trains: The most convenient & comfortable way to get around the city of Bangkok. The routes connect many of Bangkok's leading hotels & shopping areas (including Siam Square, Silom, Chit Lom, Ploen Chit, Ratchaprasong & Chatuchak Weekend Market.

River and Canal Boats: River Taxi & Ferries:

Getting TO/AROUND: River Taxi & Ferries: This type of transportation plies along the Chao Phraya River.
The ride from Tha Tian to Wat Arun is 2 baht while the speed ferry from Tha Tian to Taksin Bridge or Tha Sathon Pier where you can get a connection on the BTS Sky Train is 8 baht.

I was advised to take care of my wallet & belongings while on these taxis.

Long distance buses: Getting to Ayutthaya.

    Category: Bus
Getting TO/AROUND: Getting to Ayutthaya. This is the airconditioned coach from Bangkok to Ayutthaya. Trust me, take the one with the airconditioning. It's only 45 baht (US$1) for a 1 1/2 hour ride!

    Transportation: Tuk Tuk.
  • Tip Rating:
  • 'Mode': AROUND
    Category: Bus
Getting TO/AROUND: I guess you could call this a mini bus (also known as tuk tuk locally)? This is how I got around in Ayutthaya. Hired this guy for 400 baht (US$9) for 5 hours & he drove me around the whole city. I think we went to about 8 Wat & those pix with me in them were taken by him.

Tip: Get your hotel concierge to write the name of places you'd like to visit in Thai language. Other than that, a smile goes a long way in Thailand :)
