I spent a great deal of my childhood at DANAU TOBA. Danau Toba (Lake Toba) is huge, possibly more than 10X the size of Singapore & one that I have very fond memories of. Then, it was untouched by tourism & only the locals would drive 3+ hours to reach the lake from Medan. The road was not great but we had fun along the way as there were always places to stop by to pick up some fruits & food stuff. It was like going on a journey with lots to discover. Upon reaching Prapat, the town by the lake, we would have a sumptuous meal at one of the local restaurants & that made me very happy. We were easily contented when we were young, isn't it?
On our way to Danau Toba, my parents would inevitably play the wonderful waltz of Johann Strauss J. & till today, whenever I heard of the Blue Danube & other tunes, I'll always be reminded of Danau Toba :-))) |
