Apeldoorn was my home town since the early eighties.
But I have finally left...
Most foreign tourists visiting the Netherlands won't have Apeldoorn on their "Must visit" list.
Either because they have never heard of the place or because they pressume it not being interesting enough.
(You can imagine my surprise when last September in India, someone asked me for train directions from Schiphol to Amsterdam for the next day!)
I see it as my task to at least try to make Apeldoorn better known.
I won't try to convince you that Apeldoorn is worth visiting though because I am not convinced of that myself. ;-)
Apeldoorn is the heart of the "Veluwe". The wide surrounding woudlands give the city a unique character.
With more than 155.000 inhabitants Apeldoorn belongs to the top ten of largest Dutch cities.
Unlike the other cities on that list Apeldoorn tries to maintain its village-like image.
Since I left Apeldoorn, the cities popularity seems to increase.
At the moment 4 of my friends voluntarily got a job there! One of them even left Amsterdam for it...
