If you're traveling through the south of Spain, take a detour and visit Gibralter, a remnant of the UK's colonial empire. I've always been enchanted by very small geo-political entities and they don't get much smaller than this. Also, how many territories do you enter by driving across an airstrip? Yes, look both ways and up at the stop sign!
Of course, if you go to Gibralter you have to go to the top of the famous rock -- we took the cable car though you can hike it. The views of the Atlantic, Mediterranean, and Africa are stupendous.

Gibralter is home to Europe's only indigenous species of primates, the barbary apes. These courages apes live at the highest point of the rock, often precariously close to the edge. I guess they like the view. If you decide to walk down from the top, you can't miss them.

When you're finished exploring in the hot sun, Gibralter has a host of cool, dark English pubs with a variety of magical beers. Try one -- or more! Yes, Gibralter mixes a Spanish climate with British refreshments, and it sure feels good after a hot day
Of course, after that light Spanish beer, watch out for the kick in some British brews. You can get a severe case of the beer goggles, as seen by Andrea's choice of dance partners.
