"Downeast as the Wind Blows" Jonesport by Amiga

Jonesport Travel Guide: 5 reviews and 7 photos

Downeast Maine begins at Schoodic Point on the eastern edge of Frenchmen's Bay and extends in a series of fingers reaching out into the ocean all the way to Eastport, the eastern most point in the United States and the first place to greet the morning sun. "Downeast" refers to the prevailing winds which originated downeast and blew the turn of the century windjammers southwest on their trade route. As you meander Downeast from the hubbub of Arcadia National park and Mount Dessert Island, one finger is more remote and beautiful than the next as time recedes and you enter a Maine that looks like it has been plucked from another decade, the 50's or maybe earlier.
