mcCreary's irish pub: an irish pub in tennessee!

this is an irish pub in downtown franklin.

the pub is fairly small, but service is friendly and fast. occasionally, when there are a lot of people there, it gets noisy but never so noisy that i would not go because of that.

one of the nicest things about it is that it is open in the evenings even when all of the shops are closed. its hours are 11-11 weekdays and saturdays; they have irish music from 9-11 on fridays and saturdays (no cover charge).

Favorite Dish: the fish and chips are very crispy; they are terrific. the pieces are VERY large. my brother-in-law really likes the shepherd's pie.

they also have quite a selection of beers, served in a BIG glass.

great wall of china: chinese food just north of franklin

this is a very small chinese restaurant in a tiny strip mall in the grassland area. i think the food is terrific, tho there i am always surprised at how few people are there (at lunch, anyway).

it is not particularly exceptional in decor, and one thing that i'm not crazy about is that they serve drinks in styrofoam cups.

however, i have liked every meal that i have eaten there.

service is fast and friendly; they are open from 11 am to 9:30 pm (later on weekends) every day.

Favorite Dish: i like the sweet and sour chicken (or sweet and sour anything, actually!) and the chicken with broccoli.

publix delicatessen: fresh salad to take back to where you are staying

at the publix grocery store, they make fresh salads to take out. they have a very good selection of types of salads and might even make one to your specifications (i have never asked for this, but it would not surprise me).

they also have various fresh vegetables and sandwiches, plus fried chicken, but i have never tried any of these. they look good, though.

the store is open until 10 pm every day of the week.

Favorite Dish: i usually get the asian chicken salad, which has small pieces of sliced chicken on romaine lettuce, fried noodles, water chestnuts, chopped almonds, mandarin oranges, and scallions (plus maybe some other stuff that i can't remember).

it is filling for one person and maybe enough for two, depending on how hungry you are.
