California and West National Parks The purpose of these pages is to tell you my impressions about my trip of two weeks in California, Arizona, Utah and Nevada across some of the most beautiful National Parks in the States.
I’m not doing a travel diary because I couldn’t do better than that are built by Sim and others Vters.
I’ll just give some information (particularly for European tourists) my impressions and advice.
I’ll build a travelouge titled: “beyond the corner”. Here you can find indications about places that I felt very interesting or simply curious between the “big attractions” where everyone stops (i.e. Grand Canyon, Lake Tahoe, etc).
I hope you’ll enjoy my pages and my pictures and that you’ll forgive me for my english and slowness.
See you and HAVE A GOOD TRIP wherever you are going ! |
San FRancisco International Airport: arrival Here you can find a shuttle-bus to the rent car terminal (free). Before leaving airport you could look for a guide of the city (in your mother tounge: there is italian too!) and a book with a lot of coupons. I advise you to book the hotel for the first night so when you’ll have your car you can go there to have a rest after your fligth. Near SF in South direction you can try to stay near Half Moon Bay. In east direction (Lake Tahoe/Yosemite) : Livermore. To north: Petaluma,Santa Rosa. In this way the day after you are on the road without crossing SF area. |
| | Pacific 1: Monterey-Pismo Beach Along California 1 all your senses are stimulated.
Sight, of course: what is that? the sea with some dunes of water as a blue desert? Yes, at POINT JOE along the 17 Miles Drive ($ 8, but you can’t pass here without driving through this road and have a pic-nic!)
Touch: the wind on your skin, the sand of these beautiful beaches (Peeble, Pfeiffer, etc) underfoot.
Hearing: the ocean! a lot of birds and… the marine lions at Monterey fisherman’s Wharf.
Smell: when you’ll stop in the Big Sur area, starring at the ocean above, have a deep breath and fix it in your brain! Try and see.
Taste: Have a clam chowder in the traditional bread cup. You can eat it everywhere from Monterey to Pismo beach. I had once at Splash Cafè (nice, fast and cheap) near the Pismo Beach Pier where you can see men who fish little sharks!
I think the the most beautiful spot in this area is the road itself but if you have time you could visit Carmel Mision near Monterey Peninsula (I did) and/or Hearst Castle near San Simeon.
Place for the nigth: Morro Bay, San Luis Obispo, Pismo Beach (here you can visit Pismo St. Beach and Oceano Dunes S.V.R.A). |
