Auckland Region is home to well over 1 million people and is mainly the urban sprawl of Auckland... hence the name.
Auckland actually has four city council authorities (Auckland City, Manukau City, Waitakere City, and North Shore City), plus three other local authorities (Rodney District, Papakura District, and Franklin District - the last of which is only half in Auckland Region). Confused? Don't be. |
|  | A vibrant region. Auckland has about a third of New Zealand's population and is also the most cosmopolitan place in the country. You'll be able to experience a range of cultural influences ranging from Pacific markets to the finest mediterranean cuisine.
To the north and west of the urban areas are well regarded wineries and vineyards. You can sit in an olive grove and sip fine wine accompanied by delicious and original food. If you want to you can hit the city's nightclubs, cruise to a range of beautiful islands in the Hauraki Gulf, get lost in dense native bush (forest/woods), or lounge on a sandy beach.
Auckland Region has something for everyone!
