Bali is a particularly fascinating part of Indonesia. Balinese Hinduism is a uniquely attractive aspect of the island because it permeats every feature - from the way people act, to the everyday scenes you will encounter. Keep your camera handy because you never know when something amazing will present itself! Make sure you get away from the hustle and bustle of Kuta and the south and explore the tranquil inner parts of the island. Of course if you like nightlife, beaches, and shopping then Bali will please you too, but remember the real Bali - the Bali that will intrigue and beguile you - is not to be found in Kuta. |

| | September 2004 saw me return to Bali after 9 years. A lot had changed in that time. The roads were much better, but the traffic in towns like Kuta and Ubud was much heavier. I only had eight full days there on this latest trip - no where near long enough really. I did visit a number of places I hadn't been before, including Uluwatu and Besakih.

| Pros: | "One of those places where you might just sense magic." | | Cons: | "Has mass-tourism spoilt too much of the island?" | | In A Nutshell: | "Explore, experience, and encounter Bali's charms." |

Next time try grilled which is much better :) | catalysta Wed Sep 21, 2005 17:51 UTC Tanah Lot looks like a dream...Great Bali write-up, Glenn!
