Rome is truly one of the world's great cities. It has the remarkable feel of a village, despite its size and population. For the visitor the historic centre is easy to walk around and find. I'll never forget the gasp of amazement when I spied the Colosseum at the end of a city road. There it was almost rearing up like some mythical beast. It was an unforgettable moment. Rome is a delight to wander around on foot. Give yourself at least four or five days to explore Italy's ancient capital. |
