Arrowtown from the War Memorial. - Arrowtown

Arrowtown is only a short drive or coach trip from Queenstown. You can drive there and back in a round route taking in different scenery either way if you wish.
Arrowtown has a history dating back to some of the first gold rush days in this part of Otago. You can still pan for gold in the Arrow River that runs past the town.
These days Arrowtown attracts bus loads of daytrippers from Queenstown and they flood the small town looking at the old buildings and shopping and dining.
Arrowtown is very picturesque, but it can be difficult escaping the crowds. There's only one main street and believe it or not, it was pretty congested when I was there!

Pros and Cons

Pros:Beautiful in autumn and famous for the colours of the trees.
Cons:It gets pretty congested in the first half of the day.
In a nutshell:Nice day trip from Q'town and probably an interesting place to stay a night.

The colours and history that is Arrowtown, and the very quaintness of the mainstreet make is such an attractive place to visit. Thanx Glenn for taking us there.
