Getting There: Fly Air New Zealand to/from CHC.

Getting TO/AROUND: Once again I will pour out praise for Air New Zealand! I flew to and from Christchurch in September on Air New Zealand and enjoyed the personal touches that Air New Zealand is managing to retain despite the pressing economic pressures that face our little airline these days. It may sound silly, but the impact of stepping aboard a domestic flight and being greeted by name by a flight attendant, who only had a few seconds looking at your boarding pass, makes a passenger feel very welcome. That's the difference between a good airline and an average one.
On Air New Zealand's domestic services you do get complimentary tea, coffee, or water (and not just one cup), along with a cookie.

getting around: Bus around Christchurch - it's easy!
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • 'Mode': AROUND
    Category: Bus
Getting TO/AROUND: Christchurch has a brilliant bus system that could provide a model for a city like Auckland. The ubiquitous red buses provide frequent services around the city. The well organised central bus station (known as the Bus Exchange), is the hub of the network. Fares around the city seem to be a flat NZ$2.50 and you can re-use your ticket within 2 hours of purchase in a return capacity. Of all the cities in New Zealand I've travelled on buses, this system seems the best I've seen. Also impressive (if you come from Auckland with its lousy bus system) is how often buses come and go. You never have to wait long and the services are reliable. Christchurch gets ten out of ten for its bus network. If you're on a budget in the city, it's the way to get around.
