Paihia is the main centre for accommodation and travel services in the beautiful Bay of Islands in Northland.
Here you will find the main backpackers places, bars, restaurants, and souvenir shops. It is also the main ferry and cruise centre.
I stayed here in January 2004 and 2006.
- Pros:Wide range of accommodation, shops, cosmopolitan.
- Cons:Bars near hostels can be a bit noisy if you need sleep!
- In a nutshell:A real holiday spot feel to this town.

I've been staring at my pics of paihia in my photo albums and I just couldn't remember where it was. Now I know it got mixed up with Russell in my mind.
