Wellington is New Zealand's capital and has recently claimed the mantle of capital of Middle Earth, for its strong connections with the making of the Lord of the Rings trilogy movies.
Wellington surrounds a picturesque harbour and is itself surrounded by hills. It is a very compact city and ideal for walking. It is famous for it's windy weather, but in three trips there I have always had beautiful sunny weather.
- Pros:City centre walking, good public transport, picture postcard setting.
- Cons:One-way roads make driving a nightmare, gets dark early in winter.
- In a nutshell:A small city with a strong cultural scene.
