Kuala Lumpur is Malaysia's modern, fast growing capital. It is a city with some magnificent and soaring architecture. It is a nice place to stop over between New Zealand and Europe. The city has some of the most green areas I've seen in any Asian city. It is nice to see that large vegetated areas have been preserved in the heart of this sprawling city. There's lots to keep you busy for three or so days, and the shopping is cheaper than Singapore! In my 2004 trip there I noticed that Jalan Bukit Bintang has been made a little more pedestrian friendly and that the monorail system is finished. The traffic is still pretty horrendous though!
