I have relatives in Derby near Wichita so I go there often to see them. The drive from where I live to Wichita takes me through the Flint Hills. It is some of the finest cattle country in the world. Driving through that area it is not hard to imagine how Wichita was a cow town in the 1870's. Wichita began as a trading post in 1867 named after the Wichita indians who inhabited the area. From that humble start Wichita has grown into the largest city in Kansas. It is a center for aircraft-manufacturing and industry. McConnell airforce base is there. There are several universties and colleges in Wichita. There is also quite a lot to see and do. I'll try and share some of those things with you here. |
