Back Side of the Marriot Courtyard in Old Town

Marriot Courtyard San Diego Old Town: Old Town Location

Tucked away on a side street, Marriot Courtyard is only a block away from one of the main streets in Old Town. It is part of a large chain of hotels and the amenities are the usual offered at a Marriot.

I haven't stayed here of course, but this is a reliable chain and stylish without being pretentious. They have a pool and a work-out room and there is a $15.00 fee for parking your car over night, which is less that at many other hotels in SD, including other Marriots.

Unique Qualities: The building has a nice old mansion look to it and the lobby is comfortable. There is an in-house restaurant, The Courtyard Bistro with patio dining which is most interesting to me. They also give a list of nearby restaurants that will deliver food to you at the hotel. When I was at the Marriot, the staff was very polite and helpful.

On A Secluded Side Street - Old Town San Diego

On A Secluded Side Street

Western Inn and Suites: An Independent Hotel

This is a bare, basics type hotel, the type to choose only for a place to sleep, yet it is convenient to the action in Old Town.

The price of a room here is at least $50.00 less than the other places around and if saving on hotel costs is more important than all the amenities, then this might be your solution.

No on-site restaurant, but they do give out a continental breakfast without extra charge.

Unique Qualities: The Western Inn is an independent hotel which means that it is not connected to a chain of hotels that will offer the world with the price of a room. The location is a plus for anyone who wants a more secluded place to stay. It is about two blocks from San Diego Avenue--which is the busiest street of Old Town--located just behind the Holiday Inn Express.

Free parking can be a problem, but there is charged parking available. However, most of the things to see and do in Old Town is within walking distance, if walking is no problem for you.

Holiday Inn Express: 100 % Non Smoking Hotel!

Holiday Inn Express is moderately priced and offers the basic amenities, including an outdoor swimming pool. The address is on San Diego Avenue, but the practical entrance is on the street behind, where there is not so much traffic making it easier to unload and load luggage.

There is some off-street parking, but don't count on that. Holiday Inn Express charges $10.00 per night for parking in their underground garage.

Unique Qualities: Spanish colonial style hotel located at the south end of the main activity of Old Town, on the corner of Old Town Avenue and San Diego Avenue. The entrance is in the back on Jefferson Street off Old Town Avenue.

Worth noting, this is a "Non-Smoking" hotel.

Unassuming Entrance - Old Town San Diego

Unassuming Entrance

Hacienda Hotel: A Convenient Best Western!

This seems a nice hotel and the size of it is not apparent at first sight. Each room has a balcony or is connected to a courtyard which makes outside leisure attainable.

I have not stayed here, but have been here for specific events and it seems a nice, quiet area to stay away from the activity going on in Old Town most of the time.

Unique Qualities: What drew my attention to this hotel was the lush landscaping and the atmosphere of this secluded hillside retreat. It is barely noticable from street level and obsured by plenty of tropicla plants, but just a block from the busiest sections of Old Town.

Acapulco Restaurant & Cantina is the in-house restaurant and the food they serve is pretty good as is the service.
