This little shop located in the center of La Jolla Shores Village is just what one would expect. Full of everything associated with the ocean,surfing and girls, surrounded by a Hawaiian theme to the decor.

The place is packed with clothes, shoes, accessories, watches, jewelry, hats, even wetsuits and wax for surf boards!

Name of Shop: NeighborSavor Food Market!

What To Buy: Planning a picnic or just need a roll of film? NeighborSavor Food Market is just a block from the beach at La Jolla Shores and a convenient place to pick up the items needed. Besides food they also sell beach items and various other things you might need or want.

This is really a neighborhood market and used by many local residents, however, it is full of tourists as well--or at least beach goers--so the products sold are not necessarily geared to tourists needs only.

This small market seems to encourage the latest offerings or specialty items when stocking their shelves so, you may find the prices a bit higher--still not as expensive as eating in a restaurant--or you might not recognize some of the name brands. Another thing to mention is that many La Jolla residents and people who are into water sports tend to be health conscious so you might find healthier options here.

Oh don't worry, beer and wine is sold here too!

What To Pay: Expect to pay more than at the larger, chain grocery stores, but isn't that always the way with convenience stores?

Though this is the Shopping Tip Section, you may want to know how to go about getting equipment for a day at the beach with out spending as much as it would actually cost to buy everything you want.

This is one of several shops offering bike tours or kayaking tours. They rent equipment for half a day or a full day.

Kayaks--single person $28.00 to $38.00 and double person--$45.00 to $60.00
Surfboards--$18.00 to $30.00
Boogie boards--$10.00 to $20.00
Snorkle gear--$7.00 (All day.)
Wetsuits--$10.00 (All Day)

They do have things for sale and it will depend on your interest or need, if you should rent or buy.

What To Buy: Even those of us who have a digital camera might consider buying a waterproof camera for capturing the mysteries below the water or of one or all seven caves in La Jolla.

Gift items are on sale as well as clothing and of course there are the ever popular t-shirts.

What To Pay: The tour and rental prices are competitive and if you want that underwater camera the price will not really be a surprise will it?

Name of Shop: La Jolla Adventure & Gifts !

This shop is sort of a "7/11of Beach Essentials." Located next to Goldfish Point Cafe, this "hole-in-the-wall" shop offers everything you'd need at the beach but forgot to bring. Brazilian bikinis, sunscreen, even snorkle gear to buy or rent! I notice on one of their signs that they will arrange tours.

Actually, I don't know if this is a start-up shop or just a convenienced store, but it seemed a good idea to me, so I share it with you.

What To Buy: Whatever you need to enjoy the beach and the water. Oh, and they have gifts and postcards too.

Now On Prospect Street

Name of Shop: C. J. Charles!

While in La Jolla, take a tour of the more elegant shops and let yourself feel entitled. This is not a Cartier Boutique, it is an "Authorized Dealer" which offers Cartier products.

Of course, everything in this store is beyond my means and I'm reduced to "window shopping." However, if you're in the market for something very nice, stop in and make a choice.

What To Buy: A Cartier watch would be nice.

Fingerhut has been on the corner of Prospect Street and Ivanhoe Avenue for many many years and is a favored gallery in La Jolla. It is larger than most and offers a wide selection for every taste. To name a few artists you'll find at Fingerhut, Henri Matisse, Joan Miro, Rembrandt, Picasso and our own Dr. Seuss are usually represented as well as others and they also present up-and-coming, new talents.

Their inventory is constantly changing so a visit each time you're in La Jolla would not be boring. Also you might check their website for events scheduled during your visit.

8 July 2006, Spanish artist, Gabriel Picart will have an exhibition where you can add one of his original paintings or even a print to your collection.

What To Buy: Anything that speaks to you. This Gallery offers a wide range of styles and there is something for everyone.
