This is the place to stay for those special events in ones life. Romantic and worth-every-penny.
La Valencia is one of the oldest in La Jolla and has had an interesting history from it's conception 15 December 1926 / it's grand opening, two years later on 29 December 1928, until today.
The hotel has been impacted by Hollywood celebrities, US Military personnel, WW II, the Korean War, the University of Californina at San Diego as well as the exploding population of La Jolla.
All this means that La Valencia Hotel has been an active member of San Diego's community in La Jolla and has rightfully gained the reputation of being a "Class Act."
The excellent service philosophy of La Valencia has interesting roots. Seems that the rich and famous staying at La Valencia wanted to remain anonymous, Yet, still expected service to be as accommodating as if they had been recognized.
The Solution: Treat all guests as if they were Rich and Famous!
Unique Qualities: If you can't afford a room, enjoy a delicious meal in the Mediterranean Room Restaurant, a nice compromise or have a few drinks at the Whaling Bar & Grill, it can really spark up an ordinary evening. The Sky Room is more elegant, more expensive and offers excellent views from each of it's twelve tables, but reservations are a must--make them months ahead to be sure!
However, if you can afford a room take it and pamper yourself!

This motor inn is located on a section of Torrey Pines Road that is very busy. It is right at the cross roads and getting in and out of La Jolla is quite easy. It is also near the street leading up to Mount Soledad and would be worth a trip up.
Andrea Villa Inn is not in the hub of La Jolla's downtown section and a car would be needed to get there. La Jolla Shores is not far nor is the freeway.
Unique Qualities: Some rooms have a kitchenette which means you can save money by making some of your meals while staying there. They have a hot tub (hotel) and outdoor pool. They allow pets for a one time charge of $25.
The Inn is located only five blocks from the beach, but not near many shops or restaurants. There is free on site parking, which is worth gold in this congested neighborhood..

Scripps Inn: Homey Looking Digs!

This Inn looks more like a small apartment complex from era of the 1950's than a hotel/motel and that's what gives it the "homey" appearance.
The rooms are comfortably furnished which adds to the feeling of being at home. The price of a room is high, from the simplest, ($165.00 for a king sized bed and partial ocean view) to the more luxurious ($415.00 which offers a spectacular view, a parlor with ocean view, private balcony and a kitchen.)
However, that's about average for the location and area. The price range indicates the number and size of the rooms, if the room has a fireplace, balcony, parlor, kitchen / dining area or a private courtyard entrance and of course, the breadth of the view. So, keep these specifics in mind while considering the Scripps Inn.
Unique Qualities: With a name like Scripps Inn, one would think that it's located near Scripps Institute of Oceanography, but it's not. Scripps Inn is just across Coast Boulevard at Whale Watch Point, a bit north of the Children's Pool section of beach. (Children no longer have access to this small beach area as the seals have taken it over for themselves.)
A bit farther north is La Jolla Cove and downtown La Jolla. Scripps Inn offers parking for it's guest which is a precious commodity in this part of San Diego.

I haven't, but those who have stayed here, are quite satisfied. All the ammenities expected, are offered including Internet access, a fitness center, outdoor heated pool and spa.
The rooms offer a view of the ocean (Higher priced) or the garden (Lower Priced.)
Monday through Thursday they offer an evening wine pour in the lobby which is a great ice-breaker for hotel guests.
Unique Qualities: The building is not much to look at, however it's eleven stories high and has served as a landmark in the west side of La Jolla for many years.
One thing I really like is their shuttle service. They will take you as short a distance as La Jolla Shores Beach to as far as downtown.
They offer package deals for almost anything a tourist would be interested in, so, if you'd rather someone else making all the arrangements, they'll do it for you.

Saw this place and thought it might be an economic solution while staying in La Jolla. The rates seem to run from $99.00 to $159.00 for a one bed room and the prices go up from there.. It seems like a simple motel and not a "luxury" accommodation, but it is only a few blocks from the "downtown" section of La Jolla, so might be a solution for your needs.
Unique Qualities: They offer "very basic" standard amenities and free parking which is worth something in this part of La Jolla.
Sorry for the quality of the photo, click on it to get a "bit" better view. The temporary sign might meant that this place is in the process of changing hands or a name change so call before making your decision.
