The Sun Deck Bar and Grill: What a day for a day dream...

  • Restaurant Name: Sun Deck Bar and Grill

On the Sun Deck at the Hotel Del Coronado, umbrella covered table and chairs are available for resting, having a drink ordered at the bar or to take a meal of hamburgers / hotdogs while enjoying an expansive view of the Pacific Ocean. This is one of the nicest places to spend time in the California sun.

Steps lead down to a pristine beach, protected with great boulders from the ebbing of the Pacific Ocean tides.

Favorite Dish: A Bloody Mary is my favorite.

Fare warning the grill offers little more than hamburgers and hotdog. No fries or salads to go with them.

    Sidewalk cafes and coffee shops.
Great for a refreshing stop and people watching.

Throughout the city of Coronado you will see sidewalk cafes and coffee shops. Choose the one you like and relax. This is a gracious town with many lovely things to see while having a meal or sipping a cafe mocha.

Favorite Dish: Cafe Mocha or espresso.

  • Restaurant Name: Bay Beach Cafe

This is one of my favorites for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The decor is nautical, heavy on sailing/yacht racing memorabilia, there is outside dining on the deck over looking the San Diego bay and the food is good, not too expensive. The view of San Diego’s skyline is awesome especially at night with the city glowing in lights.

Favorite Dish: Seafood dishes, salads and a Bloody Mary for lunch.

    Peohe's: Baysde Views!

  • Restaurant Name: Peohe's

Inside and outside dining, great food and service. Peohes patio offers charming waterside views and live entertainment when local musicians are performing near by.

Walking into Peohes dining room, from the well lit lobby, is like walking into a tropical cave. Walls that look like huge rocks, a small waterfall splashing into the lagoon and tropical flowers gives the dining room a cozy feel, but more important, a refreshingly cool respite from the burning sun on a hot day.

However, I always head out to the patio, which is the basic path of tables, under nautical blue umbrellas, inside the fenced area overlooking the Bay.

Favorite Dish: Seafood, steak, chops and sushi bar are some items on the menu, and there is definately a Hawaiian flavor to many of the dishes, but it's the view that attracts me to this restaurant.

The prices on the lunch menu are a bit more affordable. Beware of the "Onion Rings!" They are not the typical skinny circles of sliced onion.

Peohe's Salad is a refreshing change from the basic Iceburg lettuce with tomato.

Il Fornaio: SET APART FROM THE REST
  • Tip Rating:

  • Restaurant Name: Il Fornaio

The newest place at the Ferry Landing Market Place and though I haven't eaten there yet, I've heard good reviews of this place. I have, however, eaten at the Il Fornaio's In Del Mar and liked it very much.

(I have eaten there now and can tell you that it is as enjoyable as at the Del Mar location!! Just the smell of the fresh baked bread is worth it!!)

The views seen from this restaurant are wonderful and relaxing. The stark decor isn't my favorite, but something about the understated simplicity is soothing. Mostly I like the graceful and accommodating service given by all employees.

There are two heated patios at this restaurant, one off the main dining room and one off the full service bar, which allows smoking and food as well as drinks will be served.

Favorite Dish: This is also a Bakery--Food To Go also.

We shared a salad and sandwich which was plenty for two of us and delicious!

Each meal begins with the Italian version of "chips & salsa." A basket full of various breads and a dish with basalmic vinegar in olive oil appeases the appetite while perusing the menu.

What to ordre? It's anyone's choice. I had a calzone and salad, a meal too big for one sitting, so took the rest home for a light dinner later. Save room for one of their succulent desserts!!

There are a few fast food stalls throughout the Ferry Landing Marketplace, and one of the healthiest is Spiro’s Gyros, serving Greek fast food.

Convenient and inexpensive. Eat at one of their tables or walk over to the park or onto the sand to enjoy the ocean breeze and the sites. Also there are coffee kiosks for something lite after your meal.

Favorite Dish: Hummos and Greek Salad are my favorite. Gyros, souvlaki, tzatziki, seafood, chicken, lamb, and beef are also on the menu.

  • Restaurant Name: Coronado Boathouse 1887

Only the name has changed this time. This historic building was once the boat house for the Hotel Del Coronado. At one time it also housed the Scripps Institute of Oceanograpy before they moved to La Jolla. In recent history it has been the site of several restaurnants, such as the Chart House. It has now become the Coronado Boathouse 1887 restaurant. The phone number and address are the same and it still offers the same type menu.

This is a place for special events and dressing your best.

Favorite Dish: The place to go if you want to dress up and you're craving a juicy steak or my favorite, Prime Rib! On the menu you'll also find seafood, steaks, and pasta. As for me a Beef Eater Martini and Prime Rib will by my choice

Located in the old Hotel Del boat house over looking the marina. Open for dinner only.

    Brigantine Restaurant: A LOCAL FAVORITE!

  • Restaurant Name: THE BRIGATINE

The Brigantine Seafood Restaurant is very popular with the "locals" but not one of my favorites only because there is no outside dining and no ocean/bay views.

Favorite Dish: Why, seafood, of course! The food is good, that's why it's so popular.

  • Restaurant Name: MIGUEL'S COCINA

This is my favorite Mexican food restaurant in Coronado. It is a wonderful place to get out of the hot sun and sit in the covered patio dining area. The food is good and priced modestly.

The dress code is casual, so if you've built up a hunger after catching the waves at the beach, just slip something on over your suit and relax. This is just couple of blocks from the beach--depending on which part of the beach you've settled.

Favorite Dish: Chicken Fajitas and Margaritas! (Not necessarily in that order!)

  • Restaurant Name: Market Cafe

The Market Cafe is one of three restaurants at Lowes Coronado Bay Resort that is open to the public as well as to the guests of the resort.

I especially like the dockside terrace seating over lookin the marina.

The others to choose from are Azzura Point, serving California Cuisine; La Cantina Bar & Grill, located poolside.

Favorite Dish: Market Cafe opens at 6 a.m. and closes at 10:00 p.m. During those hours breakfast, lunch and dinner are served. Brunch is offered every Sunday.

You've done a great job on this page. I should have spent time here instead of just driving thru. I could spend hours and hours between the hotel's architecture and all those antique shops and cafes. Wonderful presentation.
