It's more fun watching the learner than the Pro!! - Chula Vista

It's more fun watching the learner than the Pro!!

WindSurfing in Chula Vista!

Watching is the only thing I've done, but that shouldn't limit you. Windsurfing in Chula Vista at Bayside Park (AKA, J Street Marina) is a popular thing to do. This is a good place to learn as the weather conditions are right for the sport and it is not a high traffic tourist area where the multitudes can watch the effect of your unmet expectations.

However, it is also a place where professionals like to come and compete. In the fall months, the San Diego Windsurfing Association Formula Races are held here for all who like to watch the competition. September 10, October 1, November 5 and December 3 noon J Street, Chula Vista is the date, time and place this year. (2005)

I have actually only seen people trying to learn and though it might not be nice to say, it is a very, very funny experience. Of course, laughing at the sight of determined novices pulling themselves up on the board, over and over again, after falling in various ways, may seem rude, but truth be told, admiration for their continued and dogged effort is what really allows me to enjoy it so.

Equipment: If you haven't brought your own windsurfing board, one can be purchased at Marbella Surf Designs

Fun-4-All Batting Cages - Chula Vista

Fun-4-All Batting Cages

Batting Cages!

Baseball has been known as an All-America sport and most of us have played the game at some time or another. The batting cages at Fun-4-All in Chula Vista are the only regulation batting cages open to the public in Southern California. Though they are not the only batting cages in San Diego, they have been voted the best.

There are 10 batting cages and the price range is $1.00 - $25.00. Call ahead--though, that isn't necessary--to make advanced reservations and ask for the discount on the cages they offer.

What is a batting cage?

Oh, sorry.

A batting cage is a space completely surrounded with wire fences and netting that one (the batter) walks into, stands on "home-plate" with bat in hand, while a machine spits out baseballs at various speeds--which the batter chooses--allowing the batter to show-off or look foolish, depending on ability or lack of it. Maybe you've seen it in the movies.

So, whether you are a baseball fanatic or just a parent wanting to help the kids blow-off steam this is a great place to have fun-4-all. They are open from 9 a.m. to midnight, everyday!

Equipment: If you have your own, favorite bat, bring it, otherwise all you need is money and energy!
