Welcome to my Malaysia page,
Just as this sign was blurred, so often were the views throughout Malaysia. The heat and humidity caused everything, except the people, to waver and blur.
The sign is one of welcoming and by changing the second word the meaning changes:
--Selamat Datang! = Welcome --Selamat Jalan! = A pleasant journey to you --Selamat Tinggal! = Good Bye --Selamat Malom = Good evening, good night --Selamat pagi = Good morning --Selamat tahun boru! = Happy New Year
Malaysia was an interesting country. It seemed that while I was there the people were in the process of reawakening a sense of nationality, taking pride in all things Malaysian. One of the loveliest results were the increasing number of women wearing the "shirt-lock" dress. A lovely long shirt ---to the calf of the leg, and long skirt underneath. The style and colors were beautiful, something I had never seen before.
The food wasn't as delicious as in Indonesia, in many of the places I went, but that was mainly due to the fact that my hostess was new to the area and hadn't explored enough restaurants to know which served the best food. I ate in four private homes and two of them offered very delicious meals. So, if you've never eaten Malaysian food and at one restaurant the taste isn't DELICIOUS, try another because Malaysian food prepared properly is VERY DELICIOUS.
I hope you enjoy your visit, Linda |
