...under the aegis of USAID ! <font color=blue><b>Tashkent</font></b> was one of the places where interpreting work took me following the demise of the former Soviet Union. In this case the event was a seminar on the GATT Agreement, the WTO, letters of credit and other "exciting" financial topics.

On our non-working days, however, I enjoyed exploring the land of the ancient Silk Road and admiring its beautiful Islamic architecture, most of which may be found outside of the capital city. In spite of its "exotic" historical allure,<font color=blue><b>Tashkent</font></b> is much more a Soviet city than an Asian one.
At least, it was when I was there ! I will need to go back in order to appreciate how things have evolved...
