At the beginning of 1998, I had the opportunity to spend two months at Sera Je Monastery in south India (Bylakuppe, south of Mysore) at the invitation of a good friend of mine, Geshe Tsulga. After the events of 1959, he was one of a group of monks who fled to India and began to rebuild the monasteries which the Chinese had destroyed in their homeland. At the time I was feeling somewhat worn out by the turbulence (and in some instances, violence) of life in Moscow, so I jumped at the chance of a bit of contemplation and introspection. This photo shows WHITE TARA (otherwise known as DROLKAR), the Tibetan deity who represents compassion incarnate. More details will follow.....
|
