Carlsbad Caverns National Park was our 2nd stop on a loop trip that started and ended in El Paso. The preceding park was White Sands National Monument and following was Guadalupe National Park.
The caverns has one of the largest chambers in the world with over 100 caves. You can explore the "Big Room" and "Natural Entrance" on a self-guided tour which shouldn't be missed. Guided tours visiting other parts of the caverns are also available year-round. I'd recommend doing the self-guided and a couple of the guided tours. There are tours available for the adventurous where crawling is required. We did not have time for those, yet they seemed very interesting.

Stephen-KarenConn Wed Jan 5, 2005 20:25 UTC My first trip to Carlsbad was with my dad when I was only 9 - went back once 25 years later. Great memories. | matcrazy1 Mon Nov 29, 2004 20:51 UTC Great pics and updated texts. I loved the caverns and my underground trip there. My tourist trap was that I didn't have a tripod with me :-(. Crazy photographer me... | mrclay2000 Mon Nov 3, 2003 03:57 UTC I was told to eat at White's City instead of the wretched food at the Caverns. My own cave experience was not as jolly as your nightlife tip (all for the bats!) | heplion Tue Jul 16, 2002 12:21 UTC Do slaughter canyon next time!!! |
