Keoki's Paradise

  • Keoki's is an open-air restaurant with thatched roofs, koa paneling and old Hawaii posters and surfboards lining the walls. It has a casual, polynesian flair, and at night tiki lights are lit.

Their specialty is fresh fish that is prepared a number of ways, plus they have steaks, ribs and chicken.

The bar serves wonderful tropical drinks.

At least one night a week they have karaoki.

This is a good family restaurant.

We always go to Keoki's when we first arrive as it's one of the few places still open after 10 p.m. You can order food & platters from the bar area and prices are reasonable.

    Open: 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.
    Dinner: 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Favorite Dish: We've been there for both lunch and dinner and have enjoyed everything! The hula pie for dessert is heavenly. It's a huge slice of macadamia nut ice cream with nuts, chocolate sauce and whipped cream on top. There is enough for at least 3 people.

    Brennecke's Beach Broiler
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:

  • A fun, casual, upbeat restaurant and bar located across from Poipu Beach Park with great views of the ocean. It's a favorite of locals and visitors alike. They are best known for their fresh fish char-broiled over kiawe charcoal. Other menu items include steaks, primerib, seafood, sandwiches, salad bar.

On our latest trip to Poipu I thought the prices were a bit expensive for what you get. Food is good but not great. Views of couse are still outstanding.

Open Daily for lunch, dinner, happy hour.
They have a salad bar and early dinner specials.

Downstairs there is a Beach Center where they book activites and provide island information. They also sell Brennecke's logo wear, other clothing and jewelry

Favorite Dish: fresh fish specials & a pitcher of beer

Plantation Gardens: Located in a restored plantation manor

  • Restaurant Name: Plantation Gardens

The Plantation Gardens Restaurant and Bar is located in the renovated estate of the owner of Hawaii's first sugar plantation. It was built in the 1930's and was later sold to the Moir family who planted the famous "Moir Gardens" that surround the restaurant. The open-air setting is gorgeous overlooking tropical gardens, lilly ponds, orchid & cactus gardens. At night tiki lights are lit in addition to a string of white lights running the perimeter of the roof. They have indoor and outdoor (porch) seating.

Favorite Dish: The Plantation Gardens cuisine concentrates on local Hawaiian specialties, fresh fish, chicken & pork. Restaurant is open from 5:30 p.m. daily.

The bar serves specialty drinks and opens at 4:00 p.m. daily.

    Reservations are encouraged.

On our most recent trip we were a little disappointed in our meals. Drinks and pupus (scallops) were good but the sauces on our main courses were overwhelming.

    Joe's on The Green
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:

  • An open-air restaurant located at the Kiahuna Golf Course with distant views of the ocean, excellent golf course and mountain views. Sports bar in the afternoon. Voted #1 for best breakfast on the island of Kauai.

Menu items are American with a few local Hawaiian dishes.

    Breakfast: 7-11:30 am
    Lunch: 11:30 am-2:30 pm
    Happy Hour: 3-5:30 pm
    Dinner: Wednesdays & Thursdays only
5:30 pm - 8:30 pm with live Hawaiian music

Favorite Dish: Breakfast: There are early bird breakfast specials for $5.99 from 7-9 am Monday-Saturday.
    Other favorites are:
    banana macadamia-nut pancakes
bisquits and gravy (includes 2 fried eggs)
    loco moco

The loco moco was tasty but not what I expected. It's a hamburger over white rice doused with brown gravy and a fried egg on top.

Sueoka's Snack Shop: A favorite with locals!

  • Restaurant Name: Sueoka's Snack Shop

This is a little whole-in-the-wall type of place I never would have found or even considered going to if it weren't for the recommendation in "The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook." It's located in Koloa and attached to Sueoka's Market but sits back in the parking lot.

In general meals are expensive in Kauai but not here as nothing is higher than around $4.50 per plate. Of course at this price food is basic and good, certainly not gourmet. Hamburgers are $1.20, cheeseburgers $1.60, fresh fish sandwiches $1.90. The plate lunches include rice and macaroni salad or a vegetable and are in the $4 - $4.50 range. The menu changes daily and there are usually local dishes and fresh fish. A good place to consider if you're on a budget or just don't want to pay the usual high prices at other restaurants.

Open: 9 am to 3 pm
    Take out only.

Favorite Dish: Everything we tried was very good. They have fresh local fish, teriyaki burgers using strips of beef and there is usually a special posted that may not be on the menu everyday.

  • Here's an example of what you can order for $4.00 a plate. We've tried many different menu items. Shown is pot roast and mahi-mahi. All of the plate lunches come with rice. Some of the local entrees are quite interesting. Tried the Hawaiian plate which inlcuded a wrapped pork, rice and something that resembled salsa.

Just came back for a visit of the condo. I think it is one of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed. To bad it is so far away for us and our RV.

How informative, interesting and helpful ALL of your comments and tips are!! Once I started I couldn't stop reading them. My niece and her family are going to Poipu in March and they will certainly benefit from your pages. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing your images and tips especially local food tips. My experience from The Big Island is that lots of the "hole in the wall places" serves the best local food. Looking forward to some plate lunches and Laualau when I'm visiting in January.

What an enticing page you have built here! I can hardly wait for our planned trip to Kauai in November. And what I'd give for a slice of that Hula Pie right now!
