The Danish capital of America Solvang was established by a group of Danish educators in 1911. It's main attraction is the traditional architecture, windmills, museums, shops and bakeries. Bakeries and candy stores are everywhere. You could smell the delectible danish treats everywhere while walking around town. Just too tempting!!
Some people view Solvang as a tourist trap and I'd agree but the architecture is charming.
Solvang is located about 45 miles north of Santa Barbara and 150 miles north of Los Angeles. It's located in the Santa Ynez valley that has over 40 wineries, a few tasting rooms are in town. |

ChristinaNest Thu May 4, 2006 11:51 UTC Hey, I didn't know America had a Danish capital :) Nice page, thanks for sharing! Mm, Danish pastries, dessert time here... greetings from Sofia | frank_delargy Fri Apr 15, 2005 21:51 UTC My sister lived here before she moved to Santa Maria, before she moved to Scotland. It was a fun town to walk around in and I'll bet Sideways isn't hurting it's popularity.
