Brienz is located in the Bernese Oberland section of Switzerland and on the northern end of Lake Brienz completely opposite of well-known Interlaken. It is most famous for its wood carvings which are displayed around town either in statue form (as shown), in a museum (which was closed during my visit), and smaller carvings for sale in the numerous tourist shops here and throughout Switzerland. Brienz is home to a woodcarving and violin making school. It is possible to tour the woodcarving school for free and observe the artisans busy at their craft. |

JudyinPA Fri Aug 11, 2006 02:48 UTC There is a trail over the bridge of Giessbach that ends at Interlaken. It is one on my favorite areas too. Maybe one more trip for me. I've missed the western side. | matcrazy1 Sun Jan 8, 2006 00:42 UTC Haha, that bear in your intro pic looks very American by design but European by size. Amazing colours of water in the lake and that 1914 steamer looks great! | starship Tue Jun 7, 2005 17:20 UTC Your pictures are lovely and bring back nice memories of walking along the lake so many years ago. I didn't bring back any woodcarvings though! | sandysmith Thu Oct 9, 2003 22:36 UTC a lovely part of Switz, i really liked the waterfalls too. |
