Brienz is located in the Bernese Oberland section of Switzerland and on the northern end of Lake Brienz completely opposite of well-known Interlaken. It is most famous for its wood carvings which are displayed around town either in statue form (as shown), in a museum (which was closed during my visit), and smaller carvings for sale in the numerous tourist shops here and throughout Switzerland. Brienz is home to a woodcarving and violin making school. It is possible to tour the woodcarving school for free and observe the artisans busy at their craft.
- Pros:Beautiful & picturesque, typical Swiss town, the wood-carvings
- Cons:??

There is a trail over the bridge of Giessbach that ends at Interlaken. It is one on my favorite areas too. Maybe one more trip for me. I've missed the western side.
Haha, that bear in your intro pic looks very American by design but European by size. Amazing colours of water in the lake and that 1914 steamer looks great!
Your pictures are lovely and bring back nice memories of walking along the lake so many years ago. I didn't bring back any woodcarvings though!
a lovely part of Switz, i really liked the waterfalls too.
Nice page, Ann. Very peaceful setting.
