Beautiful and picturesque, there's no place like it on earth, with canals taking the place of roads, everything transported by boat.
However, Venice is also very crowded and touristy and was my least favorite destination during a 2 week trip to Italy and France. Not that anything terrible happened, it was just too busy for my taste. Spent 2 days there, glad I saw it, but wouldn't rush back.
Arrived by train from Verona and from the advise of a travel agent, took a water taxi to our hotel which was close to St. Marks Square. The fee was high equivalent to $50 U.S. Another couple joined us and were dropped off at their hotel that was within steps of the train station! I can't imagine what they were charged. |
